Behind “ Aedrylle ” we find Clara. She lives in the region of Paris. She creates illustrations alongside her job as an architect. In her life, her passions are drawing (as one would have suspected), video games (mainly MMORPGs), reading and writing.
OJL : Hello Aedrylle .
Aedrylle : Hello.
OJL : Four quick questions before getting to the heart of the matter.
As you live in the region of Paris, can you tell us what your favorite coffee is there ? And what do you like to drink there ?
Aedrylle : I don’t go out much in the Parisian region. On the other hand, when I go to my parents, I always go to the same place (laughs): It’s “Le café des ours” which is in Chézery-Forens. And I like to drink there… a good beer (wink).
OJL : And what is your favorite park or place ?
Aedrylle : Actually, in the Parisian region, I like the Parc de Sceaux. It’s not very far from my house and it allows you to recharge my batteries in the morning.
OJL : Next, what was the last book you read? And the last song you listened to ?
Aedrylle : _Regarding to the book: “ Dragon blood ” by Anthony Ryan. It’s very representative of my readings in the heroic-fantasy universe . It follow the epic tale of some fascinating characters who take us out of the realm of reality. It simply allows me… to escape!
_Regarding to the song: “ Cirice ” by Ghost . I love their very offbeat interpretation of the church and worship. Metal is a style that I really like even if I am sensitive to all forms of music. They’re one of my favorite bands.
OJL : Finally, do you have a quote and/or proverb that you like ?
Aedrylle : “ Vincit qui se vincit ” which means “ Wonder who can conquer himself ”. This quote comes from my favorite Disney movie: “Beauty and the Beast”. We see it in the stained glass windows of the opening scene and it perfectly represents the evolution of the prince during the film. It is my favorite Disney & this phrase resonates with me… I could only choose this quote! (laughs)
OJL : Let’s talk a little about you now. How could you introduce yourself ?
Aedrylle : I started drawing when I was very little. Like a lot of people (laughs). It turns out that I first decided to make this passion my profession through architecture. While continuing to draw on the side, I wanted to share my passion by adding to my Instagram account. One thing led to another, I multiplied the platforms, I opened two stores and I wrote the first volume of a series which I hope will see the light of day soon.OJL : Oh that’s great! And who are the artists who shaped you? Who struck you down ?
Aedrylle : First of all Gretel Lusky.
I really like her Comics style and the textures she manages to use in her drawings.
Then Sibylline Meynet.
Her gouache drawings are precise and very refined. The subjects she illustrates speak to me enormously.
And finally I really like Dzaka.
Her animals are super expressive and above all adorable.
OJL : How did you choose your pseudonym? Besides, how is it pronounced ? (laughs).
Aedrylle : I chose this pseudonym because it was simply the one I used in MMORPG style video games (laughs). And regarding pronunciation there are two schools that fight fiercely, those who pronounce a-é-drille. And the others (the minorities) who pronounce é-drille. Personally, both suit me even if I tend to use the first version more.
OJL : Let’s talk a little about your work now. What are you creating ?
Aedrylle : I mainly make illustrations and I then sell them on the internet in the form of printing, stickers, bookmarks, etc.
On Etsy, I sell handmade products where I manage the packaging and shipping.
On RedBubble , I sell more specific products that I cannot yet produce on my scale such as t-shirts, mugs, mouse pads etc… I lend my illustration to the site and they take care of the rest.
My site will allows me to transfer part of my Etsy store to this one.
OJL : How can you define your style ?
Aedrylle : When I started drawing, I mainly did manga, trying to reproduce what I liked. Then I found my style by integrating fantasy and mythological universes, or even video games like World of Warcraft, Diablo, League of Legends, Dofus etc… (on which I spent a huge amount of time, by the way).
I brought a slightly more Western touch to my line to finally have the style I have today.
It won’t stop getting better, I have no doubt about it ! (laughs).
We see my influences in my style which, according to people, is “ pure and technical ”. But I’m still a little reserved and shy about putting myself forward like that (laughs).
I also do a bit of “ geometric ” drawing: more direct and broken lines which ultimately create very beautiful ensembles.
OJL : What techniques do you use ?
Aedrylle : It’s very varied because I do digital and traditional.
In digital: I have my XP-Pen brand graphics tablet and in terms of software I mainly use Photoshop for my illustrations then Illustrator for geometric drawing.
In the traditional: I use watercolor, often sets from the Winsor & Newton brand, Pro marker alcohol pens, Faber castel colored pencils, watercolor pencils Faber castel also and classic inking with Microns. I also like to work on my sketches with washi-tape which adds color and texture. In terms of paper, all my notebooks are Moleskine, regardless of the weight or type of paper. For my A4, A5 formats, a Canson paper for watercolor and that’s it !

OJL : You told us about a book… Can you tell us more about it ?
Aedrylle : With pleasure ! I started writing it when I was thirteen and since then I have never stopped wanting to improve and perfect it, my way of writing having evolved a lot, I had to completely rewrite certain passages all the more that I’m really not good at spelling (laughs). Currently, I have finally managed to present it to some of my loved ones to get objective feedback and correct any inconsistencies in the story ! I hope to be able to start sending the manuscript to publishing houses by the end of the year.
OJL : Fingers crossed. And what is he talking about ?
Aedrylle : We follow the adventures of Lucia, a young girl, who will gradually discover that she is the Chosen One and follows in the footsteps of her predecessors, the first of whom is none other than… Jesus.
She will embarks on an adventure that will take her to the lands of Ièros , Paradise, accompanied by several characters including angels, elves and other fantastic creatures.

I was very inspired by my readings since the story keeps the codes of heroic-fantasy . However, I needed the world to be anchored in ours so that the reader could say “this could exist”.
OJL : It’s a brilliant idea to put the Christ in a heroic-fantasy story . Congratulations. Do you have a story about creating one of your products ? Or one of your sales ?
Aedrylle : “ Silence is golden” I will only speak in the presence of my lawyer (wink).
OJL : Last question. You definitely have friends who are doing amazing things ! If you want to promote them a little, now is the time !
Aedrylle :I would like to promote one of my friends. She offers advice in communication and the digital Marketing. This is ideal if you want to perfect the image of your company on the networks. Her company is called VP studio.
