The world of Miss Scissorhands jewelry is very Rock’n roll. Everything that is exciting and unusual interests her. From Gothic-Victorian romanticism, to Punk, through Rockabilly without forgetting the surprising Kawaii culture.
Behind this pseudonym, we find Marion. A designer from Rennes. She is a young mom. And a true enthusiast of all these constellations.
Each of her jewels are a unique creation. She can also works for making some tailor-made commission.

OJL : Hello Miss Scissorhands.
Miss Scissorhands : Hello.

OJL : Three quick questions before getting to the heart of the matter.
As you live in Rennes, can you tell us what your favorite café is in Roazhon city ?
Miss Scissorhands : I haven’t lived in Rennes center for 8 years. In the past I was going to “La part des Anges” run by Michaël, “Le sympa bar” and of course the world-famous “Mondo bizarro” and its memorable concerts.

OJL : And what is your favorite park or place in Rennes ? Or in Ille-et-Vilaine (35) ?
Miss Scissorhands : The Cloister of Tabor. A true Victorian gem full of good vibes.

OJL : Finally, what was the last book you read ? And the last song you listened to ?
Miss Scissorhands : The last book I read was “ Silent Nights ” by Till Lindemann. And the last song is “ Eclipse ” by Kirlian Camera.

OJL : Now let’s talk a little about you. How could you introduce yourself in a few words ?
Miss Scissorhands : “ Paradox ” would be a word that would describe me well. I am interested in works, themes, sounds and movements that would not normally be compatible.

OJL : But why such a pseudonym ? A link with a famous Tim Burton movie perhaps ?
Miss Scissorhands : Absolutely. This film means a lot to me. Gentleness mixed with this uncontrolled violence. We come back to the word “ paradox ”.

OJL : Now let’s talk about your jewellery. They are made by hand, right ?
Miss Scissorhands : I start with new elements for my creations. But also antiques. These jewels have a unique aesthetic and I am keen to bring them back to life.

OJL : What types of creations can we ask you for ?
Miss Scissorhands : I like products that don’t exist (laughs). I like really original projects. Something from another dimension. And that takes sometimes, me and the customer, towards a four-handed work.

OJL : You are interested in several cultures for your creations. If you wish, we will come back to three of them so that you can explain to us what place each has in your work.
First, what does the Gothic culture mean to you ? And how is it expressed in your work ?
Miss Scissorhands : She trained me into the creativity. She’s the one who taught me everything about dark romanticism. Where other cultures frustrated me. She opened my eyes and made me an adult. It is this movement which is the most founding in my artistic approach.

OJL : Then what does Victorian culture represent to you ? And how is it expressed in your work ?
Miss Scissorhands : Victorian culture allowed me to discover sides of myself that I didn’t know existed. If Gothic culture allowed me to explore the depths of my soul, Victorian culture allowed me to illuminate it.

OJL : Finally, what does the Kawaii culture represent for you ? And how is it expressed in your work ?
Miss Scissorhands : In Japan, you should know that the word “ Kawaii ” corresponds to 1 year in a life. This year is very special, since during this time, they allow themselves to let go in a very extreme way… On the one hand, it’s very interesting, because there is a crazy side which has given us some significant aesthetic gems. On the other hand… It is a culture that is perhaps a little superficial and commercial…

OJL : A little mouse told me that women’s rights mean a lot to you. Can you tell us more ?
Miss Scissorhands : Without considering myself a feminist, it is true that women’s rights are extremely important to me.
Lesbian rights are also important to me. In this regard, I recommend watching the series “ The L world ”.

OJL : Last question: who are the artists who inspire you ? Who motivates you ?
Miss Scissorhands : Virginie Despentes. Rammstein. Jean paul Gaultier. Rimbaud. Tim Burton. Coralie Trinh Thi. Armistead Maupin. Anne Rice. David Bowie. And finally H.R Giger.

OJL : Bravo for your creations. Sincerely. May Our Lady protects you.
Miss Scissorhands : Thank you.
