Behind “Pryscia Oscar” we find Priscillia. She lives in Loire-Atlantique [France], at a few minutes from the ocean, where she writes and illustrates according to her inspirations. In life, she juggles between different passions : drawing, writing, reading, embroidery and knitting. Activities that always oscillate between creation and escape.

OJL : Hello Pryscia.
Pryscia : Hello.

OJL : Four quick questions before getting to the heart of the matter.
As you live in Trignac, can you tell us what your favourite coffee is there ? And what do you like to take there ?
Pryscia : I rarely go to cafes. I prefer to choose a cup from my collection according to my mood of the day and sip a cappuccino or tea on my terrace while listening to the birds (smile).

OJL : And what is your favourite park or place ?
Pryscia : I am lucky enough to live next to the Brière regional park, I love walking there and observing nature, it’s something that recharges my batteries a lot.

OJL : Next, what was the last book you read ? And the last song you listened to ?
Pryscia :_While waiting to immerse myself in a new novel, I finished “Les Fées”, a magnificent album with Sébastien Pérez on the text and Bluebirdy on the illustrations.
_My big musical favourite: “This Wandering Day” by Bear McCreary and Megan Richards, a song from the show “The Rings of Power”. I’ve been listening to it on repeat since it came out !

OJL : Finally, do you have a quote and/or proverb that you like ?
Pryscia : “What I’m saying isn’t pure nonsense, you just don’t understand. » A quote from Doctor Who (the TV show) that makes me laugh and also reminds me to never let anyone make me doubt about my ideas (laughs).

OJL : Let’s talk a little about you now. How could you introduce yourself ?
Pryscia : I’m rather a discreet person. Always daydreaming, with my head in the stars. I love flowers (I’m a florist by training), cats and cups of tea.
I have always been an artist, ever since I first picked up a pencil in my left hand. Since I was little, I have loved telling stories, which pushed me towards writing and working with words. I wrote with Megära Nolhan, a trilogy entitled “Chasseuse d’Âmes”, published by Explora, for which I created the covers.
After this great period of writing, my love for drawing came back to hit me with full force. I have created other book covers, notably those for “La Selkie” by Megära Nolhan as well as one for “Les Plaines du Vent” by Lucille Chaponnay. I love being part of the adventure of these books by having created a visual for them.
After sharing my drawings on social networks, I wanted to take sharing further and create a store. The idea that my world can enter the daily lives of others and touch them a little fills me with joy !

OJL : Who are the artists who shaped you ? Who struck you down ? In a few names and why.
Pryscia : I have always loved Van Gogh’s soft yet striking colour work; his painting “Starry Night” is one of my favourites.
As for current artists, I admire many. But I especially love EllievsBear. This colourful, magical and adorable universe inspires me and touches my heart every time.

OJL : How did you choose your pseudonym ?
Pryscia : I chose this name when I started my activity as an author and I kept it for the illustration. I wanted to shorten my first name… In order to make it simpler. And strangely, now that it’s shorter, people don’t know how to pronounce it (laughs) ! For the “Oscar”, does it come from Lady Oscar (the cartoon), Oscar Wilde or something else?
I’ll leave the mystery… (wink).

OJL : Let’s talk a little about your work now. What are you creating ?
Pryscia : On my online store, you can find bookmarks, cards in A6 and A5 format, stickers and embroidery. My illustrations are inspired by nature, magic and worlds that I would like to bring into existence. I love associating female characters with pets, drawing autumn or creating worlds in cups. My “world cups” as I like to call them (smile) !

OJL : How can you define your style ?
Pryscia : Poetic and cute ? A friend once told me that she recognized my style at first glance. I know I have a way of drawing, but I don’t know if we can talk about a “style”… I’m just trying to bring my ideas to life.

OJL : What techniques do you use ?
Pryscia : I work on illustration in watercolour and digitally (with Procreate and Photoshop software), with a recent discovery of gouache. I like to associate my illustrations with tales and legends. As if… The characters existed outside of my brushes…

OJL : Can we place you a personalized order ?
Pryscia : With my job as a “muggle” (read: my position as a florist), I haven’t yet taken the time to really launch this service. But you can contact me by email, I would be happy to discuss a project and see what can be done !

OJL : Last question. You definitely have friends who are doing amazing things! If you want to promote them a little, now is the time!
Pryscia : I wanted to first quote Karine Degorre, an adorable designer who you have already interviewed: https://www.instagram.com/karinedegorreillustration/
And some fellow authors who do amazing work:
_ Megära Nolhan: talented author who offers her services as a layout designer for novels: https://www.instagram.com/megara_nolhan/
_Lucille Chaponnay: brilliant author who also offers services for authors: https://www.instagram.com/lucille_ch_auteure/
_ Amandine Peter: author, graphic designer and illustrator: https://www.instagram.com/amandine.peter.autrice/

OJL : Bravo for what you do. May Our Lady protects you.
Pryscia : Thank you very much!
