You have likely come across a painting by Jack Vettriano (born Jack Hoggan) without even realizing it – perhaps on postcards (as I did).
Jack Vettriano was born on November 17, 1951, in Methil (Fife, Scotland) and died on March 1, 2025, in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes, France).
His most famous painting is “The Singing Butler” (1992).
Like other observers, I find that his canvases evoke the “film noir” style, Art Deco, jazz, and a sense of class (reminiscent of the “Hercule Poirot” series starring David Suchet).
Incidentally, Jack Nicholson is among those who have collected his work.
