Mathieu Jedoux lives in Carros, near Nice in the PACA region [France]. He is a professional illustrator who works for both professionals and individuals. In life, his passions are everything around the medieval, the sport, reading (especially audiobooks) but above all… his family.
OJL : Hello Mr. Jedoux.
Mathieu Jedoux : Hello.
OJL : Four quick questions before getting to the heart of the matter.
As you live in Carros, can you tell us what your favourite cafe is there ? And what do you like to take there ?
Mathieu Jedoux : My favourite café in Carros is my home, because there isn’t really a café in my village (laughs). Otherwise, I like to go to Clans which is an old village. The café is called “Le bar des tilleuls”. It’s a classic café but the setting is… charming.
OJL : And what is your favorite park or place ?
Mathieu Jedoux : The Parc de la Tourre, which is downstairs from my house. I like to go there with one of my children.
OJL : Next, what was the last book you read ? And the last song you listened to ?
Mathieu Jedoux : _Regarding to the book: “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” by J.K Rowling. This is the volume 4 of the famous saga of the young sorcerer. I have already read the entire series several times in French. And this is the first time I’ve read it in English.
_Regarding to the song: I like a specific soundtrack. I use it when I draw or when I relax. It is very well known, it is that of Skyrim. I offer you the “Peaceful night sky” version which lasts 8 hours (laughs). And which includes 8 or 9 different pieces. Which end up playing in a loop. And which suit me very well…
OJL : Finally, do you have a quote and/or proverb that you like ?
Mathieu Jedoux : I like “Who dare wins”. It represents my philosophy well. This motto is used by the English SAS and by French paratroopers.
OJL : Let’s talk a little about you now. How could you introduce yourself ?
Mathieu Jedoux : I am a man born in 1987 in Nice where I was raised. In my childhood I spent some time during my holidays in Auvergne and Dordogne where my aunt and my grandfather took me to see some medieval sites. From there began my passion for this era of history which I transcribe today in my illustrations.
OJL : Let’s talk a little about your work now. What are you creating ?
Mathieu Jedoux : I was a metrology technician and I learned to draw in 2020. Since then I started this business. I create illustrations for my various customers. And it turns out that after having carried out a good number of works, I decided to offer, to the public, works presenting in detail historical objects and products, linked to the medieval world.
OJL : How can you define your style ?
Mathieu Jedoux : I have a realistic or even semi-realistic style. As you can see, my experience as a technician is reflected in my taste for precision and attention to detail (smile).
OJL : What techniques do you use ?
Mathieu Jedoux : I mainly work on a computer. Via a graphics tablet without screen and a stylus.
OJL : Can we place you a personalized order ?
Mathieu Jedoux : Of course.
OJL : Do you have an anecdote about the creation of one of your products ? Or one of your sales ?
Mathieu Jedoux : When I make my posters, I use reference images. And while viewing accounts on Instagram, I came across an armour that I wanted to represent. So I contacted the rights holder. And I came across a very nice person with whom I have the privilege of still being in touch and who helps me in my researches.
OJL : Last question. You definitely have friends who are doing amazing things ! If you want to promote them a little, now is the time !
Mathieu Jedoux : Two in particular:
_ Marine Chambon, she offers well-being massages: https://www.marinemassage.com/
_ Mickael Varela, who sells video game posters: https://balancetongaming.com/
OJL : Bravo for what you do. May Our Lady protects you.
Mathieu Jedoux : Thank you.
