OJL: Hello Lou
Lou : Good morning.

OJL : So we will first try to understand your personality a little. Then secondly we will talk about your work.
So in order to know a little more about you, we’re going to start with four fun questions. Can you tell us what your favourite color(s) are ?
Lou : My favourite color is the black. I mainly use it for the background of my illustrations and it’s also the color of 90% of my clothes !
I also really like gold and warm, natural brown/red tones.

OJL : The animal(s) you love?
Lou : I have always loved dogs. And above all I wanted to have some to take beautiful walks every day. I have also been fascinated since I was little by the beasts of legends, mythological or from folklore.

OJL : Which number(s) do you prefer ?
Lou : I like seeing sequels of 2, I find it very satisfying. And I really like the number 7 and its many meanings.

OJL : Finally, who are the superhero(ies) or super-villain(s) that you admire ?
Lou : I really like anti-heroes like Loki and Wolverine . My favorite being Venom .

OJL : Let’s talk a little about you now. How could you introduce yourself?
Lou : I am an artistic director in a Parisian agency during the day. And at night… In the comfort of my sofa, I draw… Guided by my intuition. It’s the time of my day when I lose track of time and completely escape from the world around me… By immersing myself in my imagination… Generally I like to spend quiet evenings at home. On days when inspiration eludes me, I feel lost and I wait until it’s time to go to bed, hoping that the next day I can return to my drawings… Some days, I print new illustrations to test them On paper. And with each print I spend several minutes observing the reflections of light on the gilding… I am completely hypnotized each time… I like to compare myself to a dragon who collects her gold and spends her time resting in her cave, surrounded of her treasures (laughs).

OJL : Waow. And who are the professionals who shaped you ? Who struck you down ? In a few names and why.
Lou : When I was little, I really liked the mangas. First I started drawing my favorite characters. And little by little I started to invent some. Later I discovered the engraver Albrecht Dürer during my art history classes… And I was amazed by his talent… In museums, I particularly like the collections of Classical, Renaissance, Baroque and archaeological collections. And on the other hand, I am also fascinated by the works of Gustav Klimt… It’s surely his management of gold that attracts me so much (smile). In his works, I particularly like “The Kiss”.

OJL : Let’s talk a little about your work now. What are you creating ?
Lou : I create illustrations that are inspired by the “Sacred Feminine”, invisible energy and the stars. Initially, my illustrations were a way for me to reconnect with my own feminine energy. I started taking photos of myself… And intuitively adorning my body. Redraw it using patterns and add around what I want to make it feel.

OJL : How can you define your style ?
Lou : I have a very linear graphic style, which we often associate with tattooing. My illustrations are exclusively printed in gold on a black background, which for me represents the intangible energy that surrounds us. My designs are minimalist but very ornate.

OJL : What techniques do you use ?
Lou : I draw on my iPad, on the Procreate app . When I was little I dabbled in a lot of technique but after stopping drawing for a few years during my studies I fell in love with illustration again thanks to my tablet. Then I print these illustrations on my laser printer in 100% black before transferring the gold foil onto this print.

OJL : Impressive. Can we place you a personalized order ?
Lou : Yes quite ! I really like working with brands or individuals to create something unique together. Of course the intention must speak to me and correspond to my style but I am open to all desires. For example, I have drawn many portraits related to the “Sacred Feminine” from photos of my subscribers. And I like to bring out their own energy through these illustrations.

OJL : Can we subscribe to your newsletter ? Because social networks are a bit saturated…
Lou : Not for the moment.

OJL : Do you have a story about creating one of your products ? Or one of your sales ?
Lou : When I started drawing again on my tablet after abandoning traditional drawing for a few years, I eventually started to find my style and had a very clear idea of how I wanted to print my illustrations. But I had a lot of trouble finding a method that corresponded to this vision and was financially accessible to me. Like many craftsmen who are just starting out, I financed this project with my savings. As I did not yet have any customers, I wanted to be able to print my illustrations at the lowest cost possible while still offering quality prints. After a year of research and testing I finally managed to print my illustrations at home and on demand. It was a long process but the result was perfectly what I imagined!

OJL :  Sincere congratulations. Last question. You definitely have friends who are doing amazing things ! If you want to promote them a little, now is the time !
Lou : Of course. Here are three creators that really resonate with my own creations and inspire me every day:
_ Sarah from “ Whispers of the Wild Women ”: illustrator of these magical visions:
