Behind « Suzanne’s corner » we find Sabine. She lives in the Hauts-de-France  She makes mainly some bags in different styles : victorian, retro and pin-up. But she makes also some glasses cases, coin purses and clutches. In life, her passions are reading and of course sewing and leatherworking.

OJL : Hello Sabine.
Sabine : Hello.

OJL : Three quick questions before getting to the heart of the matter.
As you live in the Hauts-de-France, more precisely in Villeneuve d’Ascq, can you tell us what your favorite café is near you?
Sabine : Apart from my workshop, I don’t go out much (laughs).

OJL : And what is your favorite park or place?
Sabine : Near my house, there is a park. The park is located in Chéreng. I appreciate the presence of birds, the woods and above all… Its tranquility.

OJL : Finally, what was the last book you read? And the last song you listened to?
Sabine : _About the book : I am very interested in cookbooks (laughs). I recommend “The Bible of Ch’ti and Northern Cuisine” by Sylvie Aït Ali.
_About the music : I am a real fan of Mrs. Mylène Farmer. My favorite song of her is Tristana .

OJL : Let’s talk a little about you now. How could you introduce yourself?
Sabine : Self-taught. Agreeable. I like helping, researching, creating. On the lookout for special things. This is why I made this type of goods. Because I wanted something less common than what we find in the mainstream stores.

OJL : Who are the artists who inspire you? Who motivates you?
Sabine : Oddly, Mylène Farmer (laughs). But also all the people who contribute to nurture the steampunk culture .

OJL : How did you choose your pseudonym ? Besides, my grandmother’s name was Suzanne !
Sabine : Well mine too (laughs). So as you can guess now, it was simply a tribute to my grandmother (smile).

OJL : Let’s talk a little about your work now. What is the guiding theme of your creations?
Sabine : The majority of my products are made from velvet. Because it is a fabric which has the great merit of being practical, chic and bright. As I know, it is the only fabric to have this level of quality. Everything I do is handmade, with love, in my workshop in Chéreng. My products are customizable. I also make commissioned creations. In this case people can choose the color of the velvet, the lining, the clasp and the accessories.

OJL : Can we say that your creations are both chic and sometimes quirky?
Sabine : Completely offbeat (laughs).

OJL : Last question. Surely you have friends who are doing amazing things? If you want to promote them a little, now is the time!
Sabine : I have collaborated with many people. I would like to mention twoof them : Sylvain Binet and Mad’moiselle Hatter .

OJL : Bravo for what you do. May Our Lady protects you.
Sabine : Thank you.
