The poem “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley

You probably know the movie “Invictus” (2009) directed by Clint Eastwood about Nelson Mandela and the Rugby World Cup in South Africa in 1995.

The film’s title comes from William Ernest Henley’s poem of the same name. And the famous poem is quoted in the movie on this scene (modern French translation of the poem) : here

A moving scene. And a strong message about the force of the psyche, of the will, in critical situations.

Note that the word “Invictus” inspired the name of one of Paco Rabanne’s perfume. Enjoy the first poster of the advertising campaign of it (note the cross on the young man’s heart and the ladies looking like Greek goddesses on each side of the perfume):
