Behind “The Silky Sassy Sisters » we find Johanna & Angélique. They live in Mulhouse in Alsace [France]. They create jewellery and accessories. In life, their passions are the creative hobbies, the photography and… the dance .
OJL : Hello Johanna
Johanna : Good morning.
OJL : So we will first try to understand your personality a little. Then secondly we will talk about your work.
So in order to know a little more about you, we’re going to start with four fun questions. Can you tell us what your favorite color(s) are?
Johanna : Grey, black and pink. Quite a contrast, I admit!
OJL: The animal(s) you love ?
Johanna : The cats. I have two beautiful representatives of the species at home (smile). And the swans.
OJL : Which digit(s) or number(s) do you prefer ?
Johanna : The 8, infinite number and lucky charm in my eyes.
OJL : Finally, who are the superhero(ies) (see super-villains) that you admire?
Johanna : I have a bias for the DC Comics villains. As Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. They often inspire me (smile).
OJL : Let’s talk a little about you now. How could you introduce yourself ?
Johanna : I am a young mother in my thirties, a jack of all trades and a dreamer who has decided to place her family and her passions at the heart of her life by moving away from the traditional world of work. I am very sensitive to beauty, I try to see it in everything, and this nourishes my contemplative side. Creation (regardless of the medium) is truly at the heart of my daily life, I express myself through it. Like many people, I try to move forward in life by seeking a good balance between my family responsibilities, my well-being, my spirituality and my ambitions.
OJL : Who are the professionals who shaped you? Who struck you down? In a few names and why.
Johanna : To name just a few… There would be :

_ David Lachapelle
_ Lana Del Rey
_ Tim Burton
&
_ Christine McConnell
Each for their unique aesthetic and worldview.
Colorful people who were not afraid to assert themselves through their tastes and their passions.
OJL : How did you choose the name of your company ?
Johanna : Initially, I wished to create this online store with my sister, Angélique, who specializes in sewing (she worked at the Paris Opera as a costume designer). So we wanted a name that used the word “Sisters”, as well as certain facets of our personalities, which are reflected in our products. Like “ Silky ” therefore evokes our sweet side, and “ Sassy ” our impertinent side (smile).
Finally, Angélique, right now, has very little time to devote to the store, even if she offers some of her creations for sale from time to time.
But I still kept the title mentioning the sisters: Angélique and Johanna, as the image of the brand.
And I often speak through this duo in some article descriptions or some posts on the social networks for example.
OJL : Let’s talk a little about your work now. What are you creating ?
Johanna : Mostly costume jewellery :
_Necklaces
_Bracelets
_Earrings
_Rings
_Brocks etc… There is the choice !
However, I am also moving towards other accessories, such as :
_Tote bags
_Key rings
_ Decorative objects: like small anti-stress potions, prints or candles.
I would ultimately like to expand these two new ranges (fingers crossed).
OJL : How can you define your style ?
Johanna : I divide my products into three collections, each inspired by a world that attracts me.
_ Thus, the “Ombre collection” brings together creations in the Gothic style, referring to the magic and the pagan beliefs.
_ The “Poudrée collection” includes jewelry and accessories in the rococo, the lolita or the kawaii style.
_ And finally, the “Pop pop pop ! collection” highlight all my creations directly inspired by the popular culture. Like for example : the Harry Potter saga or the movies from the Studio Ghibli .
OJL : What techniques do you use ?
Johanna : They are very varied !
I love branching out and learning new techniques. This can be seen in my creations : polymer clay, resin, sewing, watercolor, making cabochons, etc…
And I don’t plan to stop there (laughs).
At the moment, I really like pyrography and fabric painting. And I’m thinking about my next projects (laughs) !
OJL : Can we place you a personalized order ?
Johanna : Of course !
Several of my products, necklaces or key rings for example, are specially designed for this.
Other jewelry can be changed in color without problem.
Finally, I am open to any discussion regarding a project for a product not listed on my store !
I like challenges and the whole creative process that takes place upstream (smile).
OJL: A real athlete… And can we subscribe to your newsletter ? Because social networks are a bit saturated…
Johanna: Yes indeed !
It is monthly. And the two Sisters talk on it about their new products, upcoming events or give tips.
Moreover, subscribers to my newsletter often have small exclusive promotions, to thank them for their support ( wink ).
OJL : Do you have an anecdote about one of your products ? Or one of your sales ?
Johanna : A friend wearing one of my chokers to work told me that one of her customers thought it was a creation of a famous jeweler. She was convinced she recognized his style ! It was very flattering (smile).
OJL : Last question. You definitely have friends who are doing amazing things ! If you want to promote them a little, now is the time !
