Behind “ Gladaran ” we find Aurélie. She lives in Rennes [Brittany – France] and creates some fabric accessories as well as some costume jewelry. In life, she has many passions as scrapbooking, meditation, esotericism and Japanese art.

OJL : Hello Aurélie.
Aurélie : Hello.

OJL : Four quick questions before getting to the heart of the matter.
As you live in Rennes , can you tell us what your favorite café there ? And what do you like to drink ?
Aurélie : My favorite coffee is the “Ty Anna” in the Saint Anne district. And I like to drink a“Bonnet rouge” (beer) there from time to time (laughs).

OJL : And what is your favorite park or place in Rennes? Or in the department ?
Aurélie : I like the Parc des Gayeulles because it is huge, he have a lot of trees. Otherwise, I often return to the famous Brocéliande forest where I feel at home (smile).

OJL : Next, what was the last book you read? And the last song you listened to?
Aurélie : _About the book : I read Éloge de l’ombre” by Junichirô Tanizaki.
_About the music : I recommend “Le Rescator ” by Michel Magne.

OJL : Finally, do you have a quote and/or proverb that you like?
Aurélie : “Better die misunderstood than spend one’s life explaining” from William Shakespeare.

OJL : Let’s talk a little about you now. How could you introduce yourself ?
Aurélie : I am Capricorn with Scorpio ascendant… And it’s not simple (laughs). I followed a university course in Visual Arts then I moved towards sewing and finally into jewelry as an employee in a workshop. I often felt like I covered everything but couldn’t choose one area. One day, I understood that it was the material, the texture itself that called me… I liked to touch it and transform it… The fabric, the glass, the paper, the metal, the resin etc… There were no more choices to make, I just had to find a way to bring them together. And it was the creation of accessories that allowed me to do this.

OJL : Who are the artists who inspire you? Who motivates you?
Aurélie : I have always been inspired and influenced by the mysterious world of Jules Verne. I like the idea that my creations can invite daydreaming, imaginary journeys and reflect the past, present and future at the same time.
I follow the channel of a Swedish artist called “ Jonna Jinton ”: https://www.youtube.com/@jonnajinton . I cry at each of his videos because everything she do is so magnificent!
When it comes to scrapbooking, the victorian gothic creations of “ Journaling JunkY ” inspires me a lot; here is one:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHBQG8HA8_E
And in the esoteric universe, I appreciate “Angel of Gaia” for her eclectic journey mixing poetry, crafts and occultism. Her unfailing determination has always carried me through. She says “We do nothing for nothing, everything has a meaning, and each project is a piece in the great puzzle of the universe” https://www.youtube.com/@angedegaia

OJL : How did you choose your pseudonym?Aurélie : In fact, Gladaran means absolutely nothing (laughs). I was looking for a name in Breton and I did not found one… So I made a new word. It is therefore not linked to my personal history, which gives me a feeling of freedom and novelty. The sound of Gladaran is very warm, luminous, solar… Gladaran could be a star or a guide, indicating the path to follow or illuminating in the darkness a secret passage to unknown worlds…  just that (laughs)!

OJL : Let’s talk a little about your work now. The editorial loved your cuffs. Can you tell us more?
Aurélie : And I have other cuff models that I haven’t yet put on my Etsy store (laughs). It’s a product that I really like because it’s the detail that can add some style, even to a very basic outfit.
As it is a small part, it allows me to fully express my creativity. In particular by transforming the material with folds and adding lace, ribbons, small knots, jewelry, etc… I haven’t finished experimenting!

OJL : You also make some very original purses. What can you tell us about them ?
Aurélie : I first fell for the metal clasps (laughs). I found them so elegant, so stylish ! And because I found these clasps magnificent, I absolutely had to make some purses (laughs). Then I fell in love with a pretty black fabric encrusted with gold glitter… I decided to create a small series with my bronze cabochon called “Orion” and then another serie with some others cabochons from my “vintage” collection. These two series therefore have a style that is both victorian and futuristic because the fabric is also reminiscent of the stars and of the cosmos. This is why I called them “Cosmonnaies”(cosmos + purse).

OJL : What a name ! Really very original, well done. And now, regarding your collar clips, can you tell us more about them ? It’s a part…Very sophisticated! Do you sell them for some weddings for example?
Aurélie : For now, I did not had a request for this artwork for a wedding. But I had the idea of this product when I was ordering some custom-made earrings. At the time, I had these little oval supports with their cabochon in my stock. And I had to do something with it… But I didn’t wanted to do again some earrings… That is when I did put a pair of supports upside down and attached a chain between the two ovals … Then a second chain…Then a third chain… Finally, I really liked the result ! This type of collar brooch already exists with other designers indeed. But I am happy to have created it this way and with my personal touch (big smile).

OJL : Do you have a story about the creation of one of your products? Or of one of your sales?
Aurélie : Cabochons are a bit my trademark. The first ones I did were always the same with some bronze color. One day, while I was sitting in a park, I saw several places shining at the same time… It was the sap flowing from the trees which, with the sun’s rays, shone brightly in magnificent reflections blue and green. Not only did the forest offer me a wonderful spectacle, but it also gave me an idea ! That of creating a color palette inspired by nature. This is how cabochons with “magical”, “fairy”, “enchanted”, “cosmic”, “galactic” shades and many others were born (laughs).

OJL : Last question. You definitely have friends who are doing amazing things! If you want to promote them a little, now is the time!
Aurélie : Yes, here are two talented designers and an outstanding seamstress!
