Behind “En Scrap’Arence” we find Magali. She is a “pure salted butter Breton”, who now lives very close to Lyon in the Rhône. She do some cards, “DIY Creative Kits” and Steampunk-inspired interior decoration objects. In life, her passions are the visual arts in general and… scuba diving!

OJL : Hello Magali.
Magali : Hello.

OJL : Four quick questions before getting into the heart of the matter.
As you live near Lyon, can you tell us what your favourite coffee is there ? And what do you like to take there ?
Magali : I liked to go for a coffee at the “Tasse-livre” in Lyon 1er, but they closed… So depending on the time I like to go for a beer at the “L’Étoile Opéra”. Soon I will discover “Le Skull”. As much for their cocktails as for the decoration. I’m eager to go there !

OJL : And what is your favourite park or place ?
Magali : I like the slopes of the “Croix-Rousse”. In order to look for the small details in the different works of Street art. But also to visit the small artisan shops. And to contemplate the architecture of this space. It’s a place full of beautiful souls !
When I need to get closer to the nature, I am lucky to find it close to my home. That’s the advantage of living outside of Lyon (laughs). So I’m lucky enough to be able to walk along the Ratier River, looking for Korrigans… Who might also have left Brittany! (laughs).

OJL : Next, what was the last book you read ? And the last song you listened to ?
Magali : _About the book: “It is high time to light the stars again” by Virginie Grimaldi.
_About the song: “Creep” by Radiohead.

OJL : Finally, do you have a quote and/or proverb that you like ?
Magali : I have two: “Luck favours the bold” and “Done is better than perfect !”.

OJL : Let’s talk a little about you now. How could you introduce yourself ?
Magali : Not long ago, a friend said of me that I was… “HYPER!”. That is to say : hyperactive, hypersensitive, hypercreative, hypertalkative etc… In short, I don’t do anything by halves (laughs). I’m getting to the end of things.

OJL : Who are the professionals who shaped you ? Who struck you down ? In a few names and why.
Magali : There are three and… a surprise :
_Tim Holtz first. I am fascinated by his creative universe and amazed by his limitless imagination. I draw a lot of inspiration from him and use many of its products.
_Jules Verne and his literary work. Unavoidable.
_The imaginary world of Tim Burton fascinates me.
_And finally, more than a person, I will say that the Halloween period develops my own creativity.

OJL : How did you choose your pseudonym ?
Magali : I found this name more than 10 years ago, well before creating my brand… At that time, I gave scrapbooking lessons voluntarily for an association. This name is a mix of the word “scrapbooking” and “appearance”. My goal is to encourage people to “go beyond appearances” and discover the artist hidden in each of us.

OJL : Let’s talk a little about your work now. What are you creating ?
Magali : I create cards and scrapbooking albums. I have two formulas.
_Or “Turnkey” packs, that is to say “ready to offer” for those who do not feel like an artist.
_Or “DIY Creative Kits” for the most creative.
I also offer Steampunk-inspired interior decoration items.

OJL : How can you define your style ?
Magali : My favourite style is the Steampunk and the Vintage art.
For those who do not know the Steampunk art, you will find a whole article on the subject on my site : https://www.enscraparence.fr/billets-dinspiration/petit-guide-de-lart-steampunk-voyageurs-de-limaginaire

OJL : What techniques do you use ?
Magali : I like “Mixed Media”, that is to say mixing techniques and textures in my creations. You will always find different materials in my creations : inks, paints, metal, wood, fabric… and relief (laughs).

OJL : Can we place you a custom order ?
Magali : Custom orders are what thrill me the most :creating from the information gave to me. This little extra bit of soul that will please the customer… And I’m very happy to find some solutions !
You can make your requests to me either: by e-mail, or on the contact form on my site https://www.enscraparence.fr/ or finally directly by my Etsy store.
For me, these are all challenges that I like to take on !

OJL : What a great sport spirit. Well done. Can we subscribe to your newsletter ? Because social networks are a bit saturated…
Magali : Yes, of course! You can go to this link: https://www.enscraparence.fr/contact to subscribe  to “P’tite News”. It arrives directly in your inbox, the first Tuesday of each month at hot croissant time! (laughs).
I inform you of the new products available (cards, albums & “DIY Creative Kits”) and face-to-face workshops. I give scrapbooking tips, share my favourites with you and allow you to benefit from promotions during special subscriber V.I.P days !

OJL : Some people are lucky ! Do you have a story about the creation of one of your products ? Or one of your sales ?
Magali : Almost all of my creations have a story. Often because they follow a personalized request. One of them, a wedding congratulations card, was ordered from me by a client for her sister. A wedding in a bohemian style. This card has sold more than a hundred copies in less than a year. I feel this same emotion every time I make it. It celebrates love in all its forms and I like it !

OJL : Last question. You definitely have friends who are doing amazing things ! If you want to promote them a little, now is the time !
Magali : With great pleasure ! I would like to promote one person in particular: Alexia Parisi.
She’s such a sparkling painter, these works are magnificent ! I’ll let you discover his world here:

OJL : Bravo for what you do. May Our Lady protects you.
Magali : Thank you.
