Behind “Martinefa” we find Madame Martine Fassier, professional artist. Martine lives in the Paris region. In life her passions are numerous. To name three, she likes:
1_Nature.
2_Art in general (from our most ancestral paintings, to the latest 3D films), 3_And curiosities & antiques. Because, according to her, “every object is imbued with a soul, witness to our different passages here and there, crossing the ages to deliver us real secrets, as long as we want to listen to them”.

OJL : Hello Martinefa.
Martinefa : Hello.

OJL : Three quick questions before getting to the heart of the matter.
As you live in the Paris region, can you tell us what your favourite coffee is ?
Martinefa : I don’t have a concrete answer to this question unfortunately. The rare cafés where I stop are those that I come across on my way during trips or travel. I most often only stop there once and it is perhaps their memory which is therefore the most delicious, for those who remain printed in my memory despite my fleeting passage. So there are some in Bruges as well as in Essaouira, Amsterdam or Colmar… But perhaps they don’t even exist anymore ? So I prefer to keep them in my mind, like an old cliché whose film gradually deteriorates over the years…

OJL : And what is your favourite park or place in your region ?
Martinefa : I am lucky to be surrounded by greenery (laughs) but it is true that a few places on the banks of the Marne attract me for their freshness and the animals that live there. For this, the Champs-sur-Marne park offers everything I could need depending on my mood of the moment: its castle and its park are very well maintained. Just like wilder and more isolated corners, where I happily get lost listening to the birdsong (smile).

OJL : Finally, what was the last book you read ? And the last song you listened to ?
Martinefa : _About the book :“Voyage au pays des nonas” by Paule Giron, which was lent to me by my mother. This allowed me to understand another age group, I always like to learn a little more about humans, as soon as it presents itself. Try to understand it, to better accept it.
_About the music, I generally only listen to it as an inspiring partner for my work. At the moment, I am especially lulled by the worlds of Max Richter or Hans Zimmer.

OJL : Let’s talk a little about you now. How could you introduce yourself ?
Martinefa : An artist lost in her dreams who tries to make people dream ? (laughs).

OJL: How did you choose your pseudonym ?
Martinefa : So there, nothing much thought out… I needed a very first nickname to register on a forum ages ago, it came to me in the second. As I found it practical, it simply stuck with me over the years (smile).

OJL : Let’s talk a little about your work now ? How could you describe your work ?
Martinefa : I have been working in drawing, painting and sculpture for several decades now. I also take photographs (see above). I also need to constantly renew myself, I am lucky enough to be able to move from one medium to another, depending on my inspirations and my developments. From mixed techniques to recycled materials, I respond to orders from individuals as well as publishers and gallery owners.
I try to always remain faithful to the same perspective: to make people dream, to make people happy or to encourage reflection.
As for my online storefront on Etsy, I offer what I myself would like to find in the depths of an antique store: objects full of mystery and hope.

OJL : What are your news ?
Martinefa : I am participating in a group exhibition “Arthur from the Earth to the Stars” at the Château de Comper in the Brocéliande forest.
It starts on Saturday July 1, 2023 until September 3, 2023. Paintings, photographs, sculptures, jewellery, scenography, drawings… This is a unique interstellar journey, to immerse yourself in an unusual vision of the legend, thanks to many artists !

I actually made a video bringing together the stages of creating the diptych that I will exhibit on site. You can watch it here: here

OJL : It’s a very nice video. Well done. Tell us which artists inspire you ? Who motivates you ?
Martinefa : It’s going to be complicated to list everything… I immerse myself in every inspiring universe, every vibrant work, every mixed emotion. It goes from the Pre-Raphaelites to the Symbolists, from Art Deco to Steampunk, from the ancestral myths of my youth to the cinematographic domain, from a pampered symphony to a landscape that reveals itself. From the most famous artists in our museums, to primitive works by unknown people. I’m a real sponge, but above all I try not to copy. Being inspired by all my senses at once, adds my sensitivity, my emotions, as well as the hope that I try to offer to others.

OJL : Last question. You definitely have friends who are doing amazing things ! If you want to promote them a little, now is the time !
Martinefa : There is one of my greatest friends who recovered from a stroke two years ago and fought despite his paralyzed body. He now works with his surviving right hand and his works are powerful, his determination commands admiration. This is the painter Thierry Cardinet. A major exhibition bringing together his latest paintings is opening its doors in Tonnerre, from July 5 to 29 in Tonnerre, in Yonne.

OJL : Bravo for what you do. May Our Lady protects you.
Martinefa : Thank you.
