Anastasia Bulgakova is an international artist. Right now she lives in Israel. She is a 2d concept artist & illustrator. Let’s learn more about her with the following questions :

OJL : Hello Anastasia.
Anastasia : Hello.

OJL : So we are going to try to see what is your personality first. Then we will talk about your works. What is your favourite colour(s) ?
Anastasia : It’s hard to determinate it… Because as an artist I consider all the colours to be attractive… And it depends on mix of the colours you know… And on the many ways to use it… But anyway, let it be turquoise (smile).

OJL : Who is the animal(s) that you like ?
Anastasia : The horse and the shark.

OJL : Surprising… And what is your favourite sport(s) ?
Anastasia : I like Martial Arts. It is interesting. It involve a lot of activities. It is not boring. It discipline helps you to maintain a good shape and to strengthen your muscles. I just like it (smile).
By the way, I grew up with watching some of the movies with Jackie Chan. And others actors in this genre.
I also compare visual art with fighting. It looks a little bit similar to me. Because you have to achieve a lot and to polish yourself if you want to be a master.

OJL : What brand(s) do you like ?
Anastasia : I don’t care about brands. I pay attention to design and price.

OJL : Which quote(s) or sentence(s) do you appreciate ?
Anastasia : I will summarize here the thoughts of  Oda Nobunaga : »My enemy is no religion, but the people who cower behind the privileges of their forefathers, which they themselves did not care to earn ».

OJL : Lastly, which super-hero(s) or even super-villain(s), do you admire ?
Anastasia : I have three of them :
1_Loki from the Marvel’s cinematic universe. Portrayed by Tom Hiddleston.
2_Ulquiorra Ciffer from the Bleach anime.
And
3_Azula from The Last Airbender animated series.

OJL : Let’s talk a bit about you now. What can you tell us about yourself ?
Anastasia : My full name (maiden surname) is Anastasia Bulgakova. Now it is Anastasia Budnitskaya. So you can find me using both of them.

I’m a mum and a wife… Who loves her daughter so much…
I like travelling, I like planes. By the way, if I had a time machine maybe I would have returned 15 years ago to dedicate my life to the aeronautic industry (smile). My favorite destination is Japan. It is my dream to live in this country,
no matter what the cons (I’ve been there a lot of times and have been studying this country for years by searching various informations about it).

I have been living in Israel for almost 5 years.

My home country is, piu para piu, Russia, Moscow.
And about Russia, I want to say that : No, we don’t want to destroy the world, we don’t have our personal bears, we don’t drink vodka for a breakfast, for a lunch and even for a dinner. I haven’t seen balalayka for…never ? And these last years are really tough and awful.

Finally, about my work, I am a professional concept artist and illustrator, who have been drawing my entire life.

I started my carrier in far 2010 and always have been striving to work on big AAA projects, to develop high quality designs and to be proud of it. Unfortunately, gaming industry is going through a terrible time today. Many developers like me don’t know whether they will survive this crisis or not.
Foreshadowing some questions, AI still cannot do the tasks that an artist does. So we haven’t been replaced yet. Netherless, there are less and less good games on the global market, less faith in games amongst players and developers and who knows what will be in the future… Not very positive, yes ?

OJL : Let’s try to have the Faith… And who are the professionals who made you ? Those who struck you ? In a few names and in a few words.
Anastasia : I think names or nicknames of these professionals from digital art industry won’t be common for most readers… But I recommend to google  their names to discover they spectacular art…

There are few Korean artists like: Dean Holdeen, Juno Jeong, Hyung Tae Kim (in past cool artist illustrated Magna Carta and Blade&Soul, now CEO of famous Shift Up Korean game studio).
They were source of my inspiration for long years, though I do not copy their styles, because I
don’t like blind copying and imitation. I prefer learn from them and developing my own skills and features.

I can also add names of artists like Ruan Jia or Craig Mullins. These two are very famous in the digital art party. You wouldn’t regret discovering their artworks too. Massive, detailed scenes with dragons or battles, castles or very sketchy and tasty fast concepts and color moods.

In conclusion, there are a lot of good professionals who somehow influenced me, a lot of names deserve to be pronounced, but the list would be too long (smile).

OJL : How did you choose your several pseudonyms ?
Anastasia : My first nickname was SintoRisky. It means nothing (laughs). I was a teenager with almost 0 knowledge in the English language. But I liked how it sounds and I still use it.

Another one is Saya (Saya Art). This nickname takes its origin in far 2000s, era of forums, before mass popularity of social medias like Instagram, Telegram, Twitter etc…

This nickname was transformed to Saiko by one forum user, a friend of mine. Very warm memories.

OJL : Let’s talk now about your works. What do you do ?
Anastasia : I develop characters, armours, weapons, props and illustrations for video games. As a concept artist I design final looks and then artworks for the 3d modelers, animators and tech artists to receive they life and volume in a game engine. That’s how it works in the gaming industry.
Every character, object, landscape or FX (effect) was scrupulously designed and went through a long conveyor to be brought into any game.

OJL : How could you describe your style ?
Anastasia : It is simple. My art style is realistic, semi realistic.

OJL : Which techniques do you use ?
Anastasia : I think it would be appropriate to talk about tools: Photoshop, Blender, Keyshot etc… Mixing of 2d and 3d and photobashing. Depends on the task and the time I have.

OJL : Is it possible to ask you for a custom product ?
Anastasia : From time to time I do commissions if I receive tasks who are close to my style of drawing and if I have some spare time for this. But I prefer boring, full time, stable job as game developer (laughs).

OJL : Do you have an anecdote about one of your products ? Or about one of your sales ?
Anastasia : No, I do not have any anecdote.

OJL : Last question. You surely have some friends who are making wonders ! If you would like to promote them, this is your time !
Anastasia : I would with pleasure, but for now I don’t think that I have a specific people in my mind or anyone who needs a promotion.
